TWO NEW SUPER POST-PANAMAX CRANES HAVE ARRIVED AT THE PACKER AVENUE MARINE TERMINAL AS OF SATURDAY, MARCH 24, 2018

The arrival of PhilaPort’s two NEW super post-Panamax cranes as they complete their 90-day journey from Shanghai, China to The Port of Philadelphia’s Packer Avenue Marine Terminal!


WHEN:

Saturday, March 24, 2018

The best window of opportunity for viewing the vessel [Zhen Hua 16] transit down the Delaware River from anchor at the Mantua Creek Anchorage [adjacent to the Philadelphia International Airport] will be between * * 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. * *

* * The vessel is expected to arrive at the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal at approximately 1:30 P.M. this afternoon [Saturday, 3/24]. Docking at the terminal shortly after 2:00 P.M.

  • APEX of crane [height; boom down]: 252 ft.
  • 32 stories high [boom up]
  • 21 stories high [boom down]
  • Weight of each crane: 3,368,659 lbs. (1,528 metric tons)

 Miscellaneous Information:

  • Cost per crane: $12 million
  • 91 Days total transit time.
  • Cranes are large enough to load and discharge the newest generation of ULCVs* 10,000-18,000 containers per ship.
  • The new PhilaPort cranes, with booms up, will be 13 ft. taller than the Walt Whitman Bridge**.
  • 30 feet higher overall than current PhilaPort cranes.
