A Long-Term Commitment to Sustainability

PhilaPort’s vision is to be a leading maritime hub recognized for innovation, safety, and sustainability. Through strategic investment and collaboration, PhilaPort and its tenant-partners are modernizing operations and embracing cleaner, more efficient technologies that benefit port workers, nearby neighborhoods, and the region.

Three Sustainability Pillars

Cleaner Operations

Modernizing equipment and reducing emissions across port operations.

Cleaner Operations

Modernizing equipment and reducing emissions across port operations.

Healthier Communities

Improving air quality for workers, neighbors, and the surrounding region.

Modern Equipment, Real Progress

PhilaPort is already making measurable progress across its terminals.

 Electric Terminal Tractors

Now operating at Tioga Marine Terminal, helping move cargo more efficiently with zero tailpipe emissions.

 All-Electric Ship-to-Shore Cranes

In service at Packer Avenue Marine Terminal, replacing diesel equipment and supporting cleaner cargo movement.

*Funding in part provided by the U.S. EPA Diesel Emission Reduction Act, etc.

Modernizing the Chain of Operations

Port operations rely on a connected chain of equipment and movement. As equipment reaches the end of its useful life, PhilaPort is working to replace eligible diesel-powered equipment with zero-emission alternatives, supported by federal and state funding.

By modernizing its equipment across the chain of operations, PhilaPort is reducing emissions and improving air quality for its worker and neighbors.

Investing in a Cleaner Future

These investments will support the development of a comprehensive zero-emission strategy, including:

  • Benchmarking current emissions
  • Prioritizing equipment replacement
  • Identifying infrastructure and workforce needs
  • Tracking progress toward zero-emission goals

PhilaPort grant projects are expected to be completed by January 2029.
