PhilaPort Partners with Delaware River Stevedores (DRS) for Zero-Emission Yard Tractors and Charging Stations

Philadelphia, December 18, 2024 — In partnership with Delaware River Stevedores (DRS), PhilaPort secured a Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support the purchase of four new Terberg EV yard tractors and four new ChargePoint charging stations. The new zero-emission yard tractors will reduce diesel fuel usage at the terminal, significantly reduce operational costs, and are in alignment with PhilaPort’s strategic plan to reduce emissions across its terminals. Two of the EV tractors have already arrived at the Tioga Marine Terminal, with the remaining units expected in early 2025.

PhilaPort, The Port of Philadelphia, is an independent agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania charged with the management, maintenance, marketing and promotion of publicly-owned port facilities along the Delaware River in Philadelphia, as well as strategic planning throughout the port district.  PhilaPort works with its terminal operators to modernize, expand and improve its facilities, and to market those facilities to prospective port users.  Port cargoes and the activities they generate are responsible for thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the Philadelphia area and throughout Pennsylvania.
